On January 25th, 2023, State Rep. Kerry Wood (D-Rocky Hill, Wethersfield) and State Sen. Jorge Cabrera (D-Hamden), co-chairs of the Insurance and Real Estate Committee, hosted a press conference with health-care providers and state officials to talk about Connie, Connecticut’s Health Information Exchange (HIE). Connie allows health-care professionals and patients to securely share and appropriately access a patient’s medical information electronically. Connie’s services empower consumers to make effective health-care decisions and promote patient-centered care. Connie also improves the quality, safety, and value of health care, while reducing the waste and duplication of services. Connie supports clinical decision-making, keeps patient medical health information confidential and secure, and advances the state’s public health goals. According to Connecticut State Statute, all health-care providers must connect with Connie by May 3, 2023. Meeting the mandate means any individual, corporation, facility or institution licensed by the state to provide health care services must apply to begin connecting to and participating with Connie. This includes primary care and specialty physician practices, pharmacies, labs, and skilled nursing facilities.
